# TikTok Ads Setup

> Connect your TikTok ad account and add Northbeam parameters so spend and revenue line up.

When you're done, Northbeam shows your TikTok spend, impressions, visits, and attributed revenue on the same campaigns, ad groups, and ads.

<Info>
  **Before you start**, make sure you have:

  * A TikTok login with **admin access** to the ad account
  * Access to **TikTok Ads Manager** to edit your ads

    <span id="how-to-connect-your-ad-account" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    1. Open [Connections](https://dashboard.northbeam.io/settings/connections). If you're still in onboarding, go to **Integrations** instead.
    2. Find **TikTok Ads** and click **Connect**.
    3. Sign in with a TikTok login that has **admin access** to the ad account.

    The connection pulls your current and historical campaigns, ad groups, and ads from the TikTok Ads API, along with spend, impressions, and TikTok-reported conversion and creative metrics. Impressions also power the **Clicks + Modeled Views** attribution model.

    **If you skip this step:** campaign, ad group, and ad names are missing, along with spend, impressions, and TikTok-reported metrics.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Northbeam parameters to your ads">

    <span id="step-by-step-guide" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    Add these two custom parameters to every new and existing ad:

    | Parameter | Value |
    | :- | :- |
    | `nbt` | `nb:tiktok::__CAMPAIGN_ID__:__AID__:__CID__` |
    | `nb_platform` | `tiktok` |

    1. In your ad settings, click **Build URL parameters**.
    2. Click **Add parameter** twice and enter both parameters above.
    3. Click **Apply**.

    To have Northbeam add the parameters to new TikTok ads automatically, [ask Support](https://www.northbeam.io/submit-a-support-ticket) to turn on UTM auto-appending.

    **If you skip this step:** Northbeam can't tie visits and orders to your TikTok ads, so spend and revenue show up on separate lines.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm tracking">
    **Quick check:** click one of your live TikTok ads and look at the landing page URL. `nbt` should show real numbers where `__CAMPAIGN_ID__`, `__AID__`, and `__CID__` are. If you see that placeholder text, check the parameters against the table above.

    For a full check:

    * **Parameters captured:** follow [Checking UTM tracking](/docs/checking-utm-tracking) to confirm the Northbeam parameters reach your landing pages.
    * **Connection syncing:** follow [Checking platform connections](/docs/checking-api-connections) to confirm the account shows as connected and data is arriving.

    If a check fails, see [Troubleshooting Northbeam data](/docs/troubleshooting-tracking-issues).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  <span id="advertise-on-tiktok-shop" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

  **Advertise on TikTok Shop?** Shopify stores should connect [TikTok Shops](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/tiktok/setup). Custom stores should tag TikTok Shop orders with an `order_tag` through the [Server API](https://northbeam-orders-api.readme.io/reference/post_orders), then [tell our team](https://www.northbeam.io/submit-a-support-ticket) the tag name. See [TikTok Shops and Meta Shops](/docs/tracking-for-shops).

## GMV Max Campaigns

<span id="where-to-find-gmv-max-performance-in-northbeam" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

GMV Max is TikTok's automated campaign type for TikTok Shop. It handles targeting, bidding, and creative to hit a target ROI on total shop sales.

Northbeam attributes GMV Max automatically once these are in place:

* Your TikTok Shop is connected to a TikTok ad account
* That ad account is connected to Northbeam
* The connected user is an admin on both the ad account and the TikTok Shop

You'll find the results on the [Sales page](https://dashboard.northbeam.io/sales) under a platform called **GMV Max**.

    Usually your TikTok Shop isn't connected to an ad account, or it's connected to one that isn't linked to Northbeam. To check in **TikTok Business Center**:

    1. Select the right Business Center.
    2. Go to **Assets → Ad Accounts** and select the ad account.
    3. Go to **Assets → TikTok Shop**. If your shop isn't listed, it isn't linked to that ad account.

## TikTok Smart+ 2.0 (Smart Performance Campaigns)

<span id="how-smart+-2-0-appears-in-northbeam" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

<span id="ad-name-format" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

<span id="how-to-view-performance-by-asset-group" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

Smart+ 2.0 adds **Asset Groups** between ad groups and creatives. Northbeam shows the asset group at the start of the ad name, so there's nothing to set up:

`Asset Group Name |:| Creative Name`

For example: `Prospecting - UGC |:| spark-echo_V3_QRT472_LD-20251112.mp4`

To see performance for one asset group, open the [Sales page](https://dashboard.northbeam.io/sales), filter Platform to **TikTok**, and at the **Ad level** search for the asset group name.
