# Google + YouTube Ads Setup

> Connect your Google Ads account and add the Northbeam parameter so spend and revenue line up.

When you're done, Northbeam shows your Google and YouTube spend, impressions, visits, and attributed revenue on the same campaigns, ad groups, and ads.

<Info>
  **Before you start**, make sure you have:

  * A Google login with **admin access** to the Google Ads account
  * An **Account Name** set in Google Ads (**Admin > Account Settings > Account Name**)
  * Access to **Google Ads** to edit the account-level **Final URL Suffix**
</Info>

    <span id="how-to-connect-your-ad-account" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    1. Open [Connections](https://dashboard.northbeam.io/settings/connections). If you're still in onboarding, go to **Integrations** instead.
    2. Find **Google Ads** and click **Connect**.
    3. Sign in with a Google login that has **admin access** to the ad account.

    <span id="important-connection-requirements" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    <Warning>
      The account must have a name in Google Ads. Go to **Admin > Account Settings > Account Name** and make sure one is set. Accounts without a name can't sync into Northbeam. If the name or admin access is missing, the connection fails or your dashboard gets incomplete data.
    </Warning>

    The connection pulls your current and historical campaigns, ad groups, and ads from the Google Ads API, along with spend, impressions, and Google-reported metrics. Impressions also power the **Clicks + Modeled Views** attribution model.

    <span id="adding-an-extra-google-ads-account" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    **Have more than one Google Ads account?** All accounts you connect to one Northbeam dashboard must be under the same **Manager Account (MCC)**. See [Adding an extra Google Ads account](/docs/channels/google/faq#adding-an-extra-google-ads-account).

    **If you skip this step:** campaign, ad group, and ad names are missing, along with spend, impressions, and Google-reported metrics.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Northbeam parameters to your ads">

    <span id="step-2-insert-northbeam-utm-parameters" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    <span id="step-by-step-guide" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    In Google Ads, add this to the **Final URL Suffix** at the **account level**:

    ```
    nbt=nb%3Aadwords%3A{network}%3A{campaignid}%3A{adgroupid}%3A{creative}
    ```

    <span id="have-existing-utm-parameters" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    **Have existing UTM parameters?** Add the Northbeam parameter to the end (or beginning) and join them with an ampersand (`&`). For example:

    ```
    utm_source=paid&utm_medium=google&nbt=nb%3Aadwords%3A{network}%3A{campaignid}%3A{adgroupid}%3A{creative}
    ```

    To have Northbeam add the parameter to all Google ads in your connected accounts automatically, [ask Support](https://www.northbeam.io/submit-a-support-ticket) to turn on UTM auto-appending.

    ### UTM Parameter Priority

    Google Ads applies UTM parameters by level. **A lower level always overrides a higher level.** From highest to lowest priority:

    1. **Ad** level
    2. **Ad group** level
    3. **Campaign** level
    4. **Account** level

    So if a campaign, ad group, or ad has its own UTMs, they override the account-level Final URL Suffix you set above.

    <span id="what-if-i-already-have-utms-at-the-campaign-ad-group-or-ad-level" style={{ display: "block", scrollMarginTop: "7rem" }} />

    **Already have UTMs at the campaign, ad group, or ad level?** You have two options:

    * **Move your existing UTMs up** to the account level, so all tracking lives in one place.
    * **Move the Northbeam parameter down** to the same level as your existing UTMs.

    Either works, as long as UTMs are applied consistently and nothing at a lower level overrides them.

    **If you skip this step:** Northbeam can't tie visits and orders to your Google ads, so spend and revenue show up on separate lines.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm tracking">
    * **Parameters captured:** follow [Checking UTM tracking](/docs/checking-utm-tracking) to confirm the Northbeam parameter reaches your landing pages.
    * **Connection syncing:** follow [Checking platform connections](/docs/checking-api-connections) to confirm the account shows as connected and data is arriving.

    If a check fails, see [Troubleshooting Northbeam data](/docs/troubleshooting-tracking-issues).
